Recompose Terms of Service

Acceptance

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Recompose, an app provided by Anton Kiselev (“Recompose”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By downloading, installing, or using Recompose, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

If you downloaded Recompose from the Apple App Store, Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Apple Standard EULA”) also applies to your use of the app as a licence from Apple. Where these Terms address something the Apple Standard EULA does not — like the behaviour of our service, your account, or Coach Sharing — these Terms control that subject matter; nothing here is intended to conflict with the Apple Standard EULA’s licence terms.

Eligibility

Recompose is intended for users aged 13 and over. You may not use Recompose if you are under 13.

If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use Recompose only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian where such permission is required by applicable law. By allowing a minor to use Recompose, the parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising the minor’s use of the service and for helping them make appropriate decisions about nutrition and health information.

Recompose Service

Recompose is a nutrition and body-composition tracking app. It helps you log meals, track calories and macronutrients, set and follow nutrition goals, view trends over time, and, if you choose, connect Apple Health, sign in for cloud sync, and share progress with a coach. Recompose uses cloud-based AI to assist with meal recognition, nutrition estimation, voice transcription, and the Ask feature. See our Privacy Policy for how your information is used.

We may add, change, or remove features over time, as described in “Availability and Changes” below.

Accounts

You can use Recompose’s core logging features without an account. Creating an account, via Sign in with Apple, unlocks sync across your devices, account recovery, and Coach Sharing.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of the Apple ID used to sign in, and for all activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at support@recomposelabs.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

User Responsibilities

You agree to:

provide accurate information where the app asks for it, to the extent you choose to provide it;
use Recompose only for its intended purpose of tracking your own nutrition and body composition;
not attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to Recompose’s systems or other users’ data;
not misuse AI features, attempt to circumvent usage limits, or otherwise abuse Recompose’s service infrastructure;
not use Recompose to harass, impersonate, or misrepresent yourself to a coach or anyone else you connect with through Coach Sharing.

Nutrition and AI Estimates

Recompose uses AI to help estimate meal names, portions, calories, and macronutrients from text, photos, and voice input, to transcribe voice messages, and to answer questions in Ask. These estimates can be inaccurate. Portion sizes are approximate, photo- and voice-based recognition can misidentify food, transcripts can be wrong, and Ask’s answers are generated from your logged data and general nutrition knowledge, not verified by a nutrition professional.

You are responsible for reviewing and, where needed, correcting anything Recompose estimates on your behalf before relying on it, and for checking food and nutrition information and the decisions you make using the app.

Health Information / No Medical Advice

Recompose is a nutrition and body-composition tracking tool. It is not a medical device (unless we separately state otherwise for a specific feature), and nothing in Recompose is medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Ask’s responses, nutrition estimates, and recommended targets are informational only.

Activity, energy, weight, and other figures derived from Apple Health may be incomplete or inaccurate, depending on what Health has recorded and what you have allowed Recompose to read.

If you have a medical condition, an eating disorder history, or specific dietary or health requirements, please consult a qualified healthcare professional before making decisions based on Recompose. You remain responsible for your own health decisions.

If you are a parent or legal guardian of a minor using Recompose, you should stay involved in nutrition and health decisions where appropriate.

Apple Health

If you connect Apple Health, you control exactly what Recompose can read and write through iOS’s own permission system, and you can change or revoke that access at any time in the Health app. Recompose uses Health access only to provide the features described in our Privacy Policy.

Photos, Audio and User Content

You may attach photos, take camera captures, and record audio to describe meals or ask questions. You retain ownership of anything you create or upload to Recompose (“User Content”). By submitting User Content, you grant us the limited right to process, store, and (where you choose to enable cloud sync) transmit it as needed to provide Recompose’s features to you, including sending it to an AI provider for processing as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not use your User Content to train our own AI models, and we do not sell it.

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to submit any photo, recording, or text you attach, and for not submitting content that is unlawful, infringes someone else’s rights, or contains someone else’s personal information without their consent.

Coach Sharing lets you voluntarily share nutrition and related progress information with one or more coaches you choose. A coach is a third party you select — not Recompose staff or a Recompose service. Coaches do not receive access unless you start sharing. When you use Coach Sharing:

sharing only happens because you initiate it, by accepting a coach’s request or by generating and sending a share link;
you choose the access level (Daily Summary Only or Meal Details) and can change it, subject to what the app currently supports for an existing connection;
you are responsible for whom you share links and data with;
you can revoke a coach’s access at any time, which prevents further access through Recompose going forward;
you can delete a share link you’ve generated, which prevents it from being used to view shared information;
once a coach has legitimately viewed information through Recompose, we cannot force them to delete copies or screenshots they made independently, and revoking access cannot retroactively undo what they have already seen — only prevent further access.

Do not use Coach Sharing to share access with someone you do not trust, and do not share a link with anyone you do not want to have that access — anyone who receives a valid share link can use it.

Share links are capability links: possessing the link is what grants access to the coach-facing shared view, at the level you chose when you created it, until you delete the link or it is otherwise no longer valid. Treat a share link as sensitive, similar to a password. We are not responsible for access gained through a link you have shared beyond its intended recipient.

Third-Party / AI Services

Recompose relies on third-party services to operate, including Apple (Sign in with Apple, Apple Health, and App Attest), Supabase (cloud backend, including AI request routing and account deletion), Microsoft Azure / Azure OpenAI (cloud AI processing), and Google Firebase (analytics, crash reporting, and App Check), described further in our Privacy Policy. Your use of Recompose is also subject to each provider’s own applicable terms where you interact with their service through the app (for example, Apple’s terms for Sign in with Apple and Apple Health). We are not responsible for the availability or behaviour of third-party services we do not operate, though we choose providers we believe act responsibly with your data.

Subscriptions / Future Paid Features

Recompose is currently free to use, and the app displays your status as an early adopter. We do not currently offer paid subscriptions. If we introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future:

we will show you the applicable price and terms before you are charged;
any App Store subscription will be billed and managed through Apple’s standard purchase and subscription mechanisms, and governed by the applicable App Store terms;
being an early user of Recompose today does not, by itself, create a guaranteed lifetime free entitlement to future paid features — any such promise will only exist if we explicitly make it at the time.

Intellectual Property

Recompose’s app, design, branding, and underlying software (excluding your own User Content and third-party open-source components, which remain under their respective licences — see Open Source Licenses in the app) are owned by Anton Kiselev or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Recompose for your own nutrition tracking, subject to these Terms and, for App Store installs, the Apple Standard EULA.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract Recompose’s source code, except where applicable law gives you the right to do so;
use Recompose to violate any law or the rights of others;
use automated means to access or scrape Recompose beyond normal use of the app;
abuse AI features, attempt to circumvent usage limits or app-integrity checks, or otherwise overload Recompose’s infrastructure;
misuse Coach Sharing to access another person’s data without their consent.

Availability and Changes

Recompose is provided as an evolving product. We may add, modify, or remove features, and may occasionally need to suspend the service (for example, for maintenance, a provider outage, or usage-limit protection). We will try to give reasonable notice of material changes that reduce functionality you rely on, but we cannot always guarantee advance notice for events outside our control.

Disclaimers

Recompose is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Recompose will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated estimates will be accurate. Nothing in this section limits any statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Anton Kiselev will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of Recompose. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of Recompose is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (which may be zero, if you have not purchased anything), or a reasonable minimum amount recognised under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Termination

You may stop using Recompose at any time, including by deleting the app and, if applicable, deleting your cloud account. Deleting your cloud account removes associated cloud data as described in our Privacy Policy; nutrition data stored only on your device is not automatically deleted. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, misuse Coach Sharing, abuse AI or other service infrastructure, or use Recompose unlawfully. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, and Limitation of Liability — continue to apply after termination.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, mandatory consumer-protection laws of your own country of residence may also apply and are not overridden by this clause. Courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms, without prejudice to any mandatory right you have to bring proceedings in your own country of residence.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms as Recompose evolves. We will update the “Last updated” date above, and where a change is material, we will provide reasonably prominent notice in the app. Continuing to use Recompose after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
